Upcoming Events

And just like that, it is October!  Here is a quick look at what is happening at school.

The Big Switch!

This past week the students had, what we call, "The Big Switch".  This means that if they had Science class for the first part of the quarter, they now have Social Studies for the remaining portion of the quarter.  Likewise, if they previously had Social Studies, they now have Science class.  Mrs. Scruby teaches Science and Mrs. Westley is the Social Studies teacher.

September Update

Well, the dust has settled and the school year is now in full swing!  We are so proud of how well the students have learned their schedules and they are doing a great job remembering their supplies as they move from class to class.   We thank you for helping them keep their homework organized and checking their planner each evening.  We are off to a great start!

Picture Day!!

School picture day is Tuesday, September 15.  Picture forms were sent home last week or you can order pictures online by clicking HERE

Gifted Testing

At Parent Orientation we shared information about gifted testing.   That information has since changed and all 4th grade students will be screened for gifted services in October.  So, there is no need to complete special requests at this time.   We apologize for any confusion.  You can find more information about gifted services by visiting the gifted page on the Kings website (found under departments then curriculum) or by clicking HERE.

Eureka Math

As we shared at parent orientation, we are using a new math program called Eureka Math.  To learn more about this new program, we encourage you to check out the Parent Support page on the Eureka Math website.  Go to greatminds.net and click "support" or go directly to the parent page by clicking HERE.

Currently, we are halfway though our first module which focuses on place value, addition and subtraction.   We sent home a "tip sheet" to assist you in learning about how your child is learning math this year.  To access this tip sheet digitally, please click HERE.

Electronic Learning

Again this year, your child will be using Chromebooks.  Students all have educational Google accounts and will be using Google Educational Apps such as Google Docs, Slides and Google Classroom.  There are also websites that they will be using for math practice and keyboarding skills.  These sites can also be accessed from home and their usernames and passwords for each can be found in the front of their planners.
Math
Keyboarding

Please continue to collect pledges for the PTO Walk-A-Thon.  This is a major fundraiser for our awesome PTO and we look forward to the big event on October 2nd.   Pledges may be turned in every Thursday.

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to the SLE 4th grade website! One stop shop for all that is going on with the 4th grade at SLE. In an effort to "go green" and save paper, we will be using this website to communicate important dates and other information that is traditionally shared through classroom newsletters.

At the top you will find buttons that lead to our contact information (phone and email) as well as an individual page for each teacher on our team. Class specific information (for example information about Mrs. Scruby's Language Arts class or Mrs. Westley's Social Studies class) will be posted here. You will also find a tab listed as "Specials" which lists the Specials Schedule (Art, Music, Gym & Library) for each class.

Need information from the Kings Website? Click on the Kings Knights icon on the left. If you would like to check your child's grades, click the Progress Book button that will connect you directly to the Progress Book login page.

We hope this will help improve communication with parents and look forward to a great year!
