Please mark your calendar for the 4th grade AIR tests in April.  These tests are spread out over four mornings and are required by the State of Ohio for all 4th grade students.   We ask that you please refrain from scheduling appointments or vacations during this time.  The dates are as follows:

April 17 (Wed.) & April 18 (Thur.)  - Math

As the date draws near, you will receive more information, but we wanted you to know the dates to avoid scheduling conflicts.

January 2019

We have not officially passed the 100th day of school and over 1/2 way through the school year.  We were so pleased at how the students were able to return after winter break and get right back to work.  Here are some updates for the upcoming weeks....

The Great Kindness Challenge
We are so excited to be celebrating The Great Kindness Challenge this week.  All week we will be reviewing reasons why and ways to show kindness to others.  A few things for you to take note...

1) On MONDAY, students will be bringing home a Kindness Challenge sheet.  If students complete the challenges and return it to school by the due date (note it must be signed by a parent), then he/she will earn a spirit stick!

2) Students will be receiving Kindness T-Shirts again this year.   These will be passed out on FRIDAY and kids will be asked to just slip them on over their clothes.

Update from PE Class from Mr. Markrich

Hello SLE Families!
I am really enjoying teaching PE to the SLE students! I hope they are enjoying it as much as I am! The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Simply put, I want the students to have fun, learn new activities and skills, and create a safe and inviting environment that will encourage them to remain active for life.

Gym
In order to accomplish this goal, students must dress appropriately for PE. I have noticed an increase in students wearing shoes that can not safely be worn in the gym. Boots, dress shoes, anything other than tennis shoes, are likely to result in injury from slipping or a classmate getting stepped on. The last thing I want do is have a student sitting out watching his or her class play a game. Please remember to check the specials calendar to make sure they have the proper shoes for gym days.

Thank you!
Rick Markich

December

Thank you so much for all the awesome donations made through the
PTO Kings Wish List!! Your generosity is moving and we are putting
donations to use right away. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Fourth Grade Reminders:
On Wednesday, December 19th fourth graders can wear their pajamas to school.  They will be completing a STEM Math activity by creating gingerbread houses that can stand on their own.  Students are going to flashlight read during reading so please send your child to school with flashlight.

On Thursday, December 20th fourth graders will have their checkbook party.  We will celebrate with hot chocolate and a movie. At 2:00 we will perform our holiday dance in the gym.  We hope that you can make it to this fun performance.

There is no school on Friday, December 21st.  Winter break is  December 21st - January 6th.   School resumes on Monday, January 7th.  Have a safe and restful break!

Locker Clean Out and Lost and Found
We will be cleaning out lockers this week. It is amazing how many articles of clothing and plastic containers accumulate in the student lockers! Hopefully you will be seeing some familiar items coming home. Also, please encourage your child to check the lost and found, as there are quite a few items there that have lost their owners.

November 2018

Happy Thanksgiving!  All of us wish our students and families a very happy and restful Thanksgiving break.  School will be closed Wednesday, November 21 through Friday, November 22 for Thanksgiving.  We look forward to seeing students back at school on Monday, November 26.

Reminder from the Office
Please refrain from sending party invitations with students to school to pass out to friends.  While we this is convenient, please understand the conflict it can create for those who may not be invited.  We ask that you refer to the PTO student/family directory distributed at the beginning of the school year to send those invitations and thank yous.  If you are unsure as to how to access the directory, please contact the PTO for access information.  You can contact them through the link on the sidebar or by clicking HERE.

PTO Events
There are several events on the PTO calendar this month.  You can find all PTO events by clicking HERE.   School parties will be on December 20th -- if you are a room parent, teachers will be in contact with you to make specific arrangements.

It's Cold Outside!

Please remember to coats, hats and gloves to be prepared for outdoor recess.  Our recess is time is not until 1:10, so while it may be below 32 degrees for earlier recesses, it is often warm enough by the time 4th grade recess rolls around.
