2nd Quarter is Here!

Today we begin the 2nd quarter of the year.  Seems like the first quarter just flew by as we were busy getting to know each other and getting down to the business of learning.  There are many things to note over the next few weeks.

Art To Remember!
This week in art class, students will be taking home a personalized order form for Art to Remember.  This is a school art fundraiser that helps raise money for art supplies.  It also makes amazing gifts! SLE students have been busy creating their art in class.  The artwork is scanned and can be printed on a mug, garden flag, tshirt, night light, plate etc.

There are two ways to order.  You can go online to https://order.arttoremember.com/ and put your child's online order code or you can send cash or check in with the order form to Mrs. Hoffert.  Online is the best way and quickest way to order.  Your online code will be on the back of your student's order form.

Order this week!
All order forms or online orders are due October 25, 2017.

!!!END-OF-DAY TRANSPORTATION CHANGES!!!
Beginning Monday, October 16which is the first day of Second Quarter, a student must have a note signed by their parent and turned in that morning in order to change their means of transportation that afternoon.  Phone calls or emails will not be accepted to make a change.  Once a student is on the bus, they will not be removed.  This is the policy that is consistent with the one used at both JFB and KME.  It is about the safety of our students.  If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Parent / Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 19th, Tuesday, Oct 24th and Thursday, October 26th from 4-7:30 each night.  We look forward to meeting with you at your scheduled time.

October!

Thank you!!
Thank you so much for sending in donations for the PTO Walk A Thon.  It was a huge success!! Thank you so much for contributing to the PTO to fund special school projects.

Parent / Teacher Conferences
Please look for information coming home about setting up a fall parent/teacher conference time.  For Tucker/Scruby students, please watch the planner and homework folder.  Caskey, Westley and Clements students should have received an email to sign up a time for a time slot using Sign Up Genius.

Lifetouch Pictures
School pictures came home with students on Friday.  If you do not like your child's photos and want them retaken, picture re-take day is scheduled for November 9th.

PBIS Experiences
Did your child tell you about Experience Day?  It was a huge success.  The next Experience Day is scheduled for October 12. When you are at school, please stop and check out the unique rock garden out front created by Mrs. Hoffert and SLE students.   This was part of the set-up for our PBIS program along with the decorated classroom doors to create the walking library.  A huge thank you to all who participated, but especially Mrs. Hoffert and Mrs. Cefalu who's hard work led the way in carrying out these great student-centered projects.

Counseling in the Classroom
This month, Mrs. Burdine has been visiting our classrooms.  So far we have had lessons on internet safety and how to be a good friend.  We have one more session with Mrs. Burdine this week as she makes her way around the building. Please ask your child about the social skills he/she has learned.

A Couple Reminders.....
- It has come to our attention that many of our students do not have earbuds/earphones.  Students are using Chromebooks daily for various learning purposes and some of the programs they use, to get the most of them, use sound. If possible, we are asking that you provide these for your child.

- NO SCHOOL on Oct. 13 - Teacher Inservice

- It is crazy temperature change time of year!  AC is sometimes cool in the classrooms and it can be warm on the playground.  Keeping an extra sweatshirt at school or in the backpack sometimes will help keep students comfortable throughout the day.
