Quarter #2!

And just like that, we have now completed one quarter of 4th grade.   As we begin the second quarter, here are some things to note:

Art To Remember!
This past week in art class, students took home a personalized order form for Art to Remember.  This is a school art fundraiser that helps raise money for art supplies.  It also makes amazing gifts! SLE students have been busy creating their art in class.  The artwork is scanned and can be printed on a mug, garden flag, tshirt, night light, plate etc.

There are two ways to order.  You can go online to https://order.arttoremember.com/ and put your child's online order code or you can send cash or check in with the order form to Mrs. Hoffert.  Online is the best way and quickest way to order.  Your online code will be on the back of your student's order form.
Order this now!

All order forms or online orders are due October 17, 2018.

Parent / Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 18th, Tuesday, Oct 23rd and Thursday, October 25th from 4-7:30 each night.  We look forward to meeting with you at your scheduled time.  If you did not receive the Sign-Up Genius link to reserve your conference time, please contact your child's teacher.

Book Fair!!
Students will visit the book fair during their regularly scheduled library times during the week of October 22nd.    Again this year, you will have the opportunity to shop our Book Fair online until Oct. 31.  To access the order site, click HERE.  Family Night is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 24. Click HERE to see the 2018 book fair flyer.  Click HERE to view the book fair video. (Note there are 2 videos --- K-3 and 4-6.  Please use parental discretion when sharing with your child as website states that some parts of the 4-6 video may not be appropriate for grades K-3)

D.A.R.E.
Once again this year, we are excited that we are able to provide 4th grade students with an introduction to the D.A.R.E. program  This is a scaled down (age appropriate) version of what they will receive in later grades.  The D.A.R.E. officer will be visiting us for the next several Fridays, talking with students about making smart, safe decisions.

Behavior Checkbooks
If you hear your child talking about their checkbook at school, they have not recently opened a bank account that you do not know about, but instead are referring to our classroom behavior system.  Students will receive an "allowance" each week.  The goal is to keep all of their allowance and add to their "bank account" through positive behavior -- acts of kindness, responsibility, respect, etc.   However, they must also avoid losing money -- things like coming unprepared for class, not following class/school rules, forgetting or losing homework or materials will result in deductions in their checkbooks.  Students are excited about watching their "bank accounts" grow through the quarter.  At the end of the quarter, "money" will be cashed in for participation in a special event.
